Reaper pepper scale5/17/2023 ![]() ![]() Genetics also can determine variations in the number of taste buds and associated nerve fibers in your mouth. A study of twins by researchers at the University of Helsinki revealed that 18 to 58 percent of the pungency sensation can be explained genetically. “So you have to say she was born with no capsaicin receptor,” says food historian Dave DeWitt, who has written many books on chili peppers. When Tamuli squeezed the juice of a 1-million-SHU pepper into her eye in 2009, she had almost no reaction. The receptors also exist in other mucous membranes, such as the eye, and send similar signals that make your eyes water when you eat something spicy.Ī woman in India, Anandita Dutta Tamuli, may be an example of the lucky few who have no such receptors. When binding with capsaicin, these receptors send “Hot! Hot!” signals to the brain via the trigeminal and vagus nerves. Some people inherit fewer of the capsaicin-detecting receptors that typically line your mouth and throat, making them less sensative to the irritating compound in spicy foods. The spicy-hot story starts before we are born. Why do some pepper eaters calmly bear the sensation whereas others react so dramatically after a single bite? How well people can tolerate the Reaper’s spiciness varies widely. Rated at more than 1.5 million Scoville heat units (SHU), the accepted scale for pungency or spicy heat, the Reaper falls right below the pepper spray police use for crowd control, which is 2-5.3 million SHU. “I ate 6 of them at one time,” posted Anina Skeel Holbek Thomsen. And earlier this year, Wayne Algenio ably downed 22 Carolina Reapers in 60 seconds, setting his own world record. The video currently has 8.5 million views.Īt the Guinness Book of World Records website, some commenters sound much more relaxed about the Carolina Reaper pepper, a hybrid of a ghost pepper and a red habanero. Invoice factoring industry5/16/2023 ![]() ![]() The IRS considers several factors in determining whether any factored receivables qualify as taxable. For business owners, it can be difficult to identify whether factored receivables are subject to taxes payable to the federal government. But how does factoring fit into the tax system in the United States? This relationship is somewhat complex. ![]() So, invoice factoring presents many potential advantages for a company. A completed factoring application – Apply NowĪre factored receivables subject to taxes?.In order to qualify for factoring, your company will need to have the following items: How do companies qualify for invoice factoring? Read more about all of the advantages and disadvantages of factoring and the invoice factoring approval process. Hidden costs and fees from bad factoring companies.Reduced profit margins for your business. ![]() Easier and faster approval than traditional bank lending.Immediate access to cash for your business. Here, we’ll break down the the pros and cons so you can see the full picture. While there are many positives to invoice factoring, there are also downsides, depending on the nature of your small business and the factoring partner you choose to work with. Invoice factoring example: Invoice Face Value The remaining 10-20% of the invoice value is released to the Seller, minus a small Factoring fee (for example, on Day 26).The Debtor mails their payment to the Factoring Company, which goes into a lockbox in the Seller’s name (for example, on Day 25).The Factoring Company advances between 80-90% of the invoice value to the Seller, deposited into their business bank account (for example, on Day 2).The Seller submits that invoice to the Factoring Company for funding (for example, on Day 1).The Seller provides a service or delivers a product, then sends an invoice to the Debtor.Who’s involved in a factoring transaction? Once you understand the process, you can determine if it makes sense for your business. How does invoice factoring work?įactoring is a fairly simple and straight forward type of financing. Once the factor collects from the end customer on the standard payment terms, they release the remainder of the invoice value to you, minus a small factoring fee – typically one to five percent. The factoring company verifies your invoices, funds up to 90% of the invoice face value, then collects on those invoices directly from your customers (via a notice of assignment). Once you are approved to work with the factor, you can sell your outstanding receivables in order to boost working capital and avoid the delay of long payment terms. What is a factoring company?Ī factoring company (or “factor”) is a financing partner that purchases your invoices in exchange for cash. It allows small businesses to unlock the cash value of their invoices long before their customers pay their bills. To prevent any confusion, the term “factoring” is often used interchangeably with “accounts receivable financing”. Invoice factoring is a form of alternative financing that involves selling your outstanding invoices to a third party (factoring company) in exchange for cash up front.īecause it’s a sale, not a loan, it doesn’t impact your credit like traditional bank financing. This guide will answer all of your questions about invoice factoring, helping you determine if it’s a good fit for your business. That likely prevents you from investing in growth opportunities or maintaining day-to-day operations that keep everything on track. These long payment cycles put many small business owners in a constant cash crunch, making it hard to keep up with critical expenses like payroll, utilities or inventory. Most invoices are set to payment terms of 30 to 90 days, meaning that from the day an invoice is sent to your customer, you’re unlikely to see that money for at least a month, if not longer. Waiting for customers to pay their outstanding invoices? You’re not alone. ![]()

Macro cheat sheet5/15/2023 ![]() ![]() That said, the 40mm focal length can double as a standard prime, which means that you can use it for walkaround photography, street photography, portrait photography, and the like. It’s not a dealbreaker, but longer macro lenses (e.g., the Sigma 105mm) are just going to offer more smooth, creamy backgrounds compared to a 40mm lens like this. In other words, if you’re shooting at high magnifications, the front of the lens will get very close to your subject–and while this isn’t always an issue, you may find yourself casting shadows on the subject, or even bumping into it with your lens.Īnd second, the smaller the focal length, the less background compression that the lens offers (and, consequently, the less interesting the bokeh). This is an issue for two reasons:įirst, it means that your working distance is tiny. ![]() This lens is only 40mm long (a 60mm focal length equivalent on APS-C cameras). But if you use a full-frame camera, or you plan to go full-frame in the near future, just be aware that this lens will no longer be useful. Assuming you’re shooting with any one of Nikon’s excellent APS-C cameras (such as the Nikon D3500 series, the Nikon D5600 series, or the Nikon D7500 series), you’ll be just fine. Unfortunately, a lens that’s this cheap is going to come with at least one or two downsides, and here they are:įirst, this is a DX lens, which means that you can’t use it on a full-frame camera. Plus, it makes it the most travel-ready lens out of all the options on this list. ![]() If you’re looking for gorgeous detail shots of leaves, flowers, snow, and more, then the 40mm micro is an excellent choice.Īnd while you don’t get image stabilization, the lens is relatively small and light, which means that you don’t have to worry as much about camera shake. Plus, the optics are stellar the 40mm f/2.8 micro is crystal clear wide-open, and stays that way all the way through the aperture range (until diffraction sets in). And the manual focus ring offers just the right amount of stiffness for precision focusing. It offers 1:1 (true macro) magnification, which means that you’ll be able to get that ultra-close-up perspective that macro photographers love. If you’re looking to just get started with macro photography and you don’t want to spend the extra $150 or so for the Sigma (above), then I wholeheartedly recommend the Nikon 40mm f/2.8. Honestly, what’s great about the Sigma 105mm macro is that you can grab it for cheap, but you’ll never have to upgrade it’s the sort of lens that’s great for beginners and more serious photographers alike. That’s where image stabilization becomes a huge benefit, so that you can drop your shutter speed down to the 1/60-1/80s range without sacrificing sharpness. While this may not seem like a big deal–after all, plenty of macro lenses don’t offer stabilization–it’s important to remember that high magnifications magnify camera shake while reducing light (a very dangerous combination!). The big bonus here is the image stabilization (Sigma refers to this as ‘OS’). I’m also a fan of the big focus ring design if you’re not frequently using the manual focus on your macro lens, then you’re probably doing it wrong, which is where a thick rubber ring becomes very useful. Chromatic aberration is minimal (and what does exist is easily correctable in a program such as Lightroom or Luminar).īuild-quality is nice, without resulting in a lens that’s like a tank (though I wouldn’t go so far to call the lens “light). Images look great starting out at f/2.8, then become even sharper when stopping down to f/4 and f/5.6. Regarding optics: The Sigma 105mm macro is sharp across the board. The focal length is smack-dab in the middle of what most macro photographers need–at 105mm, you’re going to get enough working distance to shoot details and flowers, without so much length that you feel like you’re carrying around a barbel. It offers an incredible combination of a reasonable price, true (1:1) macro magnification, tack-sharp optics, excellent build-quality, and even some optical stabilization for the added benefit of crisp shots at high magnifications. ![]() These days, you can find dozens of macro lenses for Nikon… Now let’s take a closer look, starting with the best macro lens for Nikon available: 1. ![]() |
